Government Documents in Feinberg Library

Feinberg Library is part of the Federal Depository Library Program, selecting about 40% of the documents in the GPO Monthly catalog.

The library is also a depository for New York State and Canadian government documents.

US government documents are organized by Superintendent of Documents (SuDoc) number, not the Library of Congress classification system used in the rest of the library. The SuDoc number is made up of the issuing agency, sub agency, series and document title, and year.

New York and Canadian government documents are organized by agency.

All print government documents are housed in the glassed-in room on the 3rd floor of Feinberg Library. Each collection (United States, New York, and Canada) is shelved in its own section on the tall metal shelves.

Government microforms are located in the microfilm and microfiche cabinets on the 3rd floor to the right of the stairs, by the bathrooms. The collection includes:

  • United States Documents on Microfiche (filed by SuDoc number)
  • New York State Documents on Microfiche (filed by agency)
  • Canadian Microfiche (filed by agency)
  • United States Microfilm (filed by agency/title, look at titles on drawers). Includes GPO Monthly Catalogs of Government Publications from January 1906-December 1945.
  • Canadian Microfilm (filed by agency/title, look at titles on drawers)
  • Census on Microfilm 1800-1930, includes a print Index to Census Schedules.
