Search Tips

  • Brainstorm search terms! Ex: You might think your topic is child soldiers in armies, but the databases could include that topic under any of the following subjects: Soldiers. Armed Forces, Military Personnel, War, or Civil War
  • Search in a specific field! Select a specific field from the drop-down menus often found to the right of the search boxes, such as Location, Geographic Terms, Subject, or Abstract. It WILL help narrow down your search results.
  • Limit by population of interest!  Ex: Women, Children, Soldiers, Refugees, War crimes, Military Officers, etc.

Feinberg Recommends

Try these databases first to find articles for your research paper. Read the database descriptions so you know which database is best for your topic. For instance, SOCIndex is ideal for articles about social changes, whereas LexisNexis is ideal for articles from African newspapers.

Other Resources

These broad coverage, full text databases may also have articles helpful to your Inside Africa research.
